Welcome to Sydney Sings™ the home of massed choral events mounted by the Sydney University Graduate Choir and orchestra, in the Sydney Town Hall. These events involve professional soloists and orchestra, together with Sydney University Graduate Choir augmented by guest choristers from Sydney and beyond.
The Sydney Sings™ … concert series will return to the Sydney Town Hall on Sunday 10 November 2019 with a performance of
Brahms’ A German Requiem (Ein Deutsches Requiem)
Sydney University Graduate Choir invites singers from other choirs to join us in singing this magnificent work in November.
Brahms’ A German Requiem is a timeless work full of comfort and hope. Not based on the traditional Latin text, this Requiem focuses rather on the living, beginning with the words “Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Brahms himself admitted that he would gladly have named the work “A Human Requiem”.
As part of the Sydney Sings™ series, the November 2019 performance provides an opportunity for choristers from across Sydney and NSW to join the Sydney University Graduate Choir, soloists and a full orchestra in performing A German Requiem at the Sydney Town Hall. Many people who have sung with us in previous concerts are anxious to sing this beautiful music this year. We are also delighted to welcome other experienced singers. So please spread the word amongst your singing friends.
Our soloists for this performance are both international opera stars:
Soprano, Amy Moore, recently returned from London
Baritone, Simon Lobelson, now an Opera Australia star, and a regular soloist with the Choir.
If you are interested in singing with us, please go to the Information and Registration pages, where you will find the details of how to join us and what is involved : score, learning aids, rehearsals and fees.
We look forward to sharing this great musical experience with you!
